TREVISO – Two scammers pretended to be policemen and deceived an 88-year-old woman in Quinto di Treviso, making her believe that her son was in danger. The episode is reported this morning on The Tribune. They convinced the woman to hand over all the gold she had, worth it total of 4 thousand eurospromising to free his son from a false accusation of car accident.
The scam happened Tuesday afternoon, when the woman received a phone call from a man who introduced himself as a policeman, claiming that his son had been involved in a serious accident and arrested. The fake policeman told her that the only way to get him out of prison was to deliver a large amount of money or gold to a colleague who would arrive shortly.
Having no cash, the old woman gathered her jewellery. Shortly afterwards, a young man dressed as a policeman arrived at her door to collect the loot. After obtaining the gold, the swindler fled, leaving the woman without her precious memories. The complaint was immediate.
