Pesaro, signs are signed to move Valentino Rossi’s Cascone, but there are those who say no: «Let’s leave it there»

PESARO – Move the Cascone? There are those who say no. The signature collection launched by the architect Ferdinando Leoni, designer of Piazzale D’Annunzio, reached 205 signatures on Change.org in three days but is aiming for 500. However, many applaud the proposal, which does not meet with full approval from the businesses and hotels between viale Nazario Sauro and piazzale D’Annunzio.

«Like it or not, Cascone has brought people to Levante for two years now – comments Stefano Arduini (Kalle) from L’Artista – Just a week ago with the last Harley Davidson rally in Senigallia, many were they also passed through Pesaro and stopped on their motorbikes for group photos right in front of the Cascone. Here, there were many people including motorcyclists, bikers enthusiasts, all taking a selfie. Now, after the reports and the awareness raising started from an idea of Count Pinoli, the cleaning situation has improved. The water in the mirror fountain is back to how it should be and no longer stagnant. The important thing is that those responsible do not abandon this square but carry out maintenance.”

Redevelop Levante

The one who would like and expect more for Levante is Claudio Casoli of Bagni 27 and the Flyng hotel.: «Whether it is there or is moved personally leaves me indifferent, I am not in favor but not against it regardless – he comments – to tell the truth it goes said, which remains an attraction at this point of the seafront, beyond the redevelopment of the square and the evening entertainment initiatives. It brings a little more movement, especially among groups of kids, motorcyclists, families with children, who arrive from the beach and then take a selfie. What I hope for next summer is an organic project for Levante. We are asking for a pedestrian restricted traffic zone like in Ponente, extending the same pavement of Piazzale D’Annunzio to other sections of the seafront in front of hotels and factories.”

And then there is the Condhotel Vienna, which overlooks Valentino Rossi’s Cascone: «Certainly – they comment – it remains an additional element of attraction with many tourists and motorcyclists in particular but it is also a suitable place to host sporting initiatives. It goes without saying that also thanks to the Cascone, the walk from Piazzale della Libertà towards the East has recently become longer. Of course, a restyling operation should be done. Some parts of the Cascone are ruined by exposure to saltiness as well as care of the greenery around the square, where now the only beautiful and full-bodied flowering is that of lavender.”

Architect Leoni proposes to move the Cascone in front of the Benelli Museum and in its place place a significant work that is part of the Sculpture Park. For his part, Paolo Marchinelli, of the Benelli Moto Club, is waiting to see how this collection of signatures will proceed.

The Benelli Moto Club

In the meantime, an internal survey will begin among the approximately one thousand members called to express their opinion on a possible location in the garden of the management centre, which is quite large and would certainly be suitable for hosting the Cascone. The new mayor Andrea Biancani also expressed his opinion on the move: “It is not the priority now.” He then argues: «A proposal that I will take into consideration, but we will think about it next spring-summer, not now. If a strong request comes from residents, associations and people of Pesaro, we will take note of it and try to find a shared alternative.”
