“In this way a political wound is finally healed”

“The Municipality of Ancona has healed a wound”. This is said by Gilberto Santini, director of the Amat, called to co-organise the summer program of the Roman Amphitheater with two events linked to the Tau (United Ancient Theatres). His is a caress to the centre-right administration and, consequently, a punch in the stomach to the old centre-left council without ever naming it: “For years we have barked at the moon without any result – Santini said in a press conference – The light on this wonderful cultural space has remained inexplicably turned off, but now there is great happiness for the staging of such a program. For thirteen years the Tau has not been able to enjoy what could be considered the best example of ancient theater on which to plan works of a high level like the ones we present in July. However, when we talk about theatre, we mean a site of this kind and nothing else”.

If Santini made it clear who his words were aimed at, Giovanni Seneca, artistic director of the Adriatico Mediterraneo Festival was more direct, without mincing his words: “With the old centre-left administration (led by Mancinelli, ed.) we suffered a lot due to their lack of proximity, which is instead guaranteed by Mayor Silvetti. There were no problems with resources – added Seneca – they were not lacking, there was a problem of lack of attention”. A few months ago Seneca himself had led the branch of the Doric cultural associations that protested against the cutting of resources linked to culture, then the friction abated: “When councilor Bertini informed us that the Mole would no longer be used for certain events we were worried. After all, this year we would have celebrated 30 years of shows at the Mole, from ’94 to today, but when he proposed the Amphitheater to us we were stunned because it is an even more beautiful and exciting site”.

Yesterday, in short, a sort of political rather than cultural showdown took place, until the speeches concluded with the words of Maria Cristina Rossi, member of the Board of Directors of Estra, the subsidiary sponsoring the billboard: ” As long as there are such interesting cultural events, we will also be there for my children and for the young people of this city who need quality events.”
