The great appointment with the history and stories of the Middle Ages is back. From Thursday 4th to Sunday 7th July the second edition of the Festival of the Cities of the Middle Ages will be held in L’Aquila, organized by the University and the Municipality of L’Aquila. The theme this year will be ‘Cities and water’. The protagonist voices are those of the main Italian and European scholars including the archaeologist Andrea Augenti, a great expert on ancient Ravenna, the historian Duccio Balestracci, the archaeologist Francesca Romana Stasolla, Franco Cardini and José Enrique Ruiz-Doménec in dialogue around Ulysses’ dream: a human story of the Mediterranean.

Furthermore, Dario Fabbri with a reflection on the Geopolitics of water, the sociologist Magdalena Léon Gómez who will dedicate her speech to the Spanish rivers, the historian Antonio Musarra, the Byzantinist Peter Schreiner and Élisabeth Crouzet-Pavan, who will tell how the Seine made the Île de la Cité the political and religious center of Paris.

Four days of very high dissemination but also of events and shows – such as the inaugural one starring Laura Morante on a text by Amedeo Feniello dedicated to the union between water and stone. During the Festival the Castle Park will host the ‘Re-enactors’ Village’: templars, men-at-arms, archers, scribes and calligraphers, apothecaries, falconers and flag-wavers will be the protagonists of a real medieval citadel in which you can take a journey through time thanks to activities teaching, exhibitions and performances.
