Frost. The decision of the Court of Assizes of Appeal of Catania could arrive at the end of the month. This morning, it was the defense of Carmelo Curvà and Cristoforo Palmieri. The lawyers Cristina Alfieri and Antonio Gagliano presented their respective conclusions in the case of the murder of Crocifisso Sartania. He was killed and his body set on fire in the countryside in the territory of Acate. An investigation brought about developments only years after the facts and on the basis of the declarations of some collaborators of justice. At first instance, the two defendants, at the end of the summary trial, were acquitted. The judges of the Court of Assizes of Appeal of Catania, however, imposed a ten-year prison sentence each. A conclusion that faced annulment decided by the Court of Cassation, which always referred it to the Etna court. The second appeal trial is being held and in recent months the general prosecutor’s office, following the indications of the Supreme Court, concluded for the acquittal of Curvà and Palmieri. A line that the defenders reiterated during their respective interventions. They have always excluded a connection between the accused and what was reconstructed by the investigators. The statements released by the collaborators have been cast into strong doubt, as they also spoke of a punitive expedition decided against Sartania, due to the violent conduct he allegedly had with his wife.
