The event organized by the Lions Club Manfredonia Host addresses a very current topic.
Over the last decade, the media has caught our attention over the huge increase in plastic waste floating in the Pacific Ocean.
For about 100 years, plastic has been widely used in every production sector and in every human activity: agriculture, healthcare, packaging, tyres, construction, toys, cosmetics, etc.
It is present in its macro-, micro-, and nano-plastic forms and has invaded all the ecosystems of our planet.
For some years it has been recorded that it has polluted and therefore undermines the health of all living beings, including humans. In fact, it has been proven that the chemical substances (bisphenol A and phthalates, for example) released by plastic cause various diseases such as: cardiovascular, neurodevelopmental disorders, reproductive sphere, reduction of antibody response to vaccines and metabolic disorders (obesity and diabetes).
Therefore it is everyone’s duty to inform ourselves on how to address this enormous criticality.
