A breach of trust with the hiring of Jorge Martin may have been the deciding factor in Maverick Viñales leaving Aprilia and signing with KTM.

The relationship between Aprilia and Maverick Viñales deteriorated significantly when Aprilia Racing CEO Massimo Rivola signed Jorge Martin without informing Viñales. This breach of trust was a factor in Viñales’ decision to join KTM for the 2025 MotoGP season.

Martin’s unexpected signing left Viñales feeling marginalized and unappreciated, creating an environment in which he felt unable to continue with Aprilia. This breakdown in communication and trust pushed Viñales to seek opportunities elsewhere, leading him to sign with KTM, where he hopes to find a more supportive and transparent team dynamic.

KTM Motorsports director Pit Beirer welcomed Viñales and Enea Bastianini with open arms, underlining the full factory support they will receive. “We are very happy to be able to bring both Enea and Maverick into our MotoGP project and offer them complete factory support to pursue their goals and achieve their maximum performance,” said Beirer. He also highlighted the value they bring to the team, stating: “It’s clear that we are talking about two of the fastest riders in the world right now.”

This strategic move aims to strengthen KTM’s competitive advantage and demonstrates their commitment to nurturing top-level talent. With Viñales and Bastianini on board, KTM looks forward to an exciting and competitive future in MotoGP.
