the ballot will decide the new mayor

LECCE – The white smoke puts an end to the tribulations: in Lecce the ballot will decide the name of the new mayor. This is what emerged at the end of the verification procedures, started over 48 hours ago by the Electoral Commission to investigate some inconsistencies in the minutes filed relating to four sections (out of 102).

The people of Lecce will therefore return to the polls on Sunday 23rd and on the morning of Monday 24th June, to place their preference on one of the names of the two candidates: that of the outgoing mayor Carlo Salvemini or Adriana Poli Bortone who did not reach the 50 percent mark that would have allowed her to win in the first round.

The former senator in fact totaled 26 thousand and 44 votes (equal to 49.95 percent), not enough to crystallize the absolute majority. For Salvemini, however, the number of preferences was equal to 24 thousand and 374 (46.7). Final consultation data also for the other two candidates running for Palazzo Carafa, Agostino Ciucci and Alberto Siculella: the first obtained 840 votes, the second 894.

It must also be said, and this is no small matter, that there is no risk of a lame duck: for the purposes of counting the list votes, out of the total valid votes for the mayors, the official response is that the centre-right stopped at 48.67 percent. Whoever wins the ballot, therefore, will win 20 seats out of 32 (plus the mayor).
