As part of the G7, this afternoon, a visit to the “Giuseppe Andreassi” National Archaeological Museum in Borgo Egnazia took place. Participants included Britta Ernst, wife of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Yuko Kishida, wife of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Heiko Von der Leyen, husband of the President of the European Commission Ursula Von der Leyen, Amèlie Derbaudrenghien, wife of the President of the European Council Charles Michel , Ritu Banga, wife of World Bank President Ajay Banga. Present were the general secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office Carlo Deodato with his wife Cristina Capranica and Laura Marzano, wife of the Diplomatic Advisor to the Prime Minister Francesco Saggio. Among the unique pieces on display in the Museum, a clay group depicting a Banquet from the Messapian period, a head of the Roman statue of Attis, everyday objects such as vases and utensils, coins. The interactive section “Egnazia and the Sea” dedicated to underwater archeology also aroused particular curiosity.

Subsequently, a visit to the Pettolecchia Castle took place, in the Fasano countryside, dating back to the 15th century, located along the Via Traiana, which connected Rome to Brindisi. Adjacent to the fortress, the husband and wife had the opportunity to admire some majestic two-thousand-year-old olive trees.

Tomorrow Alberobello and Grottaglie

On Friday 14 June, the program will start from Grottaglie, a place famous throughout the world for the production of artistic ceramics, where a visit to a historic laboratory will be held, to witness the phases of artisanal production and decoration of the artefacts and the “Casa Dressed.” Next stop in Alberobello, where the leaders’ consorts will visit the historic center, characterized by the typical trulli.

From here a journey will begin through the Itria Valley on board a historic train with destination Martina Franca, where the program will end with a visit to the Palazzo Ducale, built in the 17th century on the site where the ancient medieval castle and headquarters of important frescoes created by Domenico Carella in the second half of the 18th century.
