The natural tunnels on the SP 141 have been consolidated and protective networks have been installed: now the road officially reopens to traffic

The Province of Treviso inaugurated officially the safety works and the reopening of the Grappa Galleries on the SP 141: after an initial opening on the occasion of the Giro d’Italia, on 25 May, today the organization celebrates together with the municipalities neighboring the Monte, the mountain huts, the citizenship, to the company SICI Srl and to the designers the completion of the work, worth 1,245,000 euros, financed entirely with the institution’s own resources.

The intervention, particularly complex due to the altitude (1600 metres) and the very shape of the area (which develops along the steepest south-eastern side of the Grappa massif) made it possible to consolidate the three natural tunnels in the stretch between km 20+500 and km 21+500, as well as improving the road system thanks to the installation of special protective nets to protect motorists, cyclists and pedestrians from falling rocks, a phenomenon which made it necessary to close the road.

To participate in the event, Stefano Marconpresident of the Province of Treviso, Annalisa Rampin, mayor of the municipality of Pieve del Grappa, Paolo Maresmayor of the municipality of Castelcucco and president of the Unione Montana del Grappa, Claudio Sartor, provincial councilor responsible for roads, Chiara Moro, deputy mayor of Borso del Grappa. Also present were the team from the Road Sector of the Province of Treviso, the representatives of the companies and designers involved in the works: DOLOMITI ENGINEERING of Albignasego, Impresa SICI srl of Fonzaso (BL) executing the works, GEO ALPI ITALIANA srl of Feltre (BL), Studio PAT, Design studio for the Environment and Territory, Geobrugg Italia srl of Bergamo, Impresa PICCOLE DOLOMITI of Cornedo Vicentino, Dr. Diego Sonda (surveys and assessment of environmental impact), Eng. Corrado Pilati (testing).

After the institutional greetings, the geologist Daniela Grigoletto illustrated the details of the intervention. This will be followed by the blessing by Don Gabriele Fregonese, parish priest of Paderno and Fietta del Grappa, and the official moment of cutting the ribbon at the entrance to the redeveloped Galleries.

In detail, the works involved the static consolidation of the vaults of the three tunnels, dating back to the First World War, through the capture of percolation water with internal drainage and disposal systems, the maintenance, repair and strengthening of the linings at the entrances to the tunnels and the arrangement of the road surface of the dirt road near the “Cason del Sol” mountain hut, located at a distance of approximately 2.5 km from the tunnels.

“Today is a day of celebration for the Province together with the entire Monte Grappa community – he comments Stefano Marcon, president of the Province of Treviso – we promised it, it was a reckless intervention that required courage and perseverance due to the structural (and natural) complexity of the road section, but we finally managed to reopen the tunnels on the SP 141, a very important artery for the area both from the point of both from a strategic and commercial point of view, as it is in fact the only road capable of connecting the tourist-forestry-pastoral activities of Grappa. It is precisely for this reason that we wanted to invest, in this extraordinary site of the UNESCO biosphere, over 1 million euros with the Province’s own funds, knowing how much the reopening of the road would mean for the mountain huts, for the surrounding municipalities and for all the citizens and tourists who choose to walk and live an experience in these areas, admiring the scenic beauty, tasting the gastronomic products and finding balance, peace and relief from the frenzy of everyday life up here.”

I thank the Province of Treviso for having made the reopening of this important road connection possible – he underlines Annalisa Rampin, mayor of Pieve del Grappa – a long-awaited intervention that will allow citizens to easily reach the mountain huts and fully enjoy the beauty of the Grappa massif”.

“The Province followed the work step by step and thanks to the collaboration with highly experienced companies and professionals we managed to complete a circle, respecting the deadlines and overcoming the critical issues related to the weather – he explains Claudio Sartor, provincial councilor responsible for roads – It is a satisfaction to celebrate this work together”

“A complex work that finally sees the light thanks to the extraordinary work of the Province, the company, the designers and the professionals who carried out the interventions even in adverse weather conditions – the words of Paolo Mares, president of the Grappa Mountain Union– Applause and a big thank you to everyone”

“A new life for a wonderful area – he comments Chiara Dal Moro, deputy mayor of Borso del Grappa – finally reachable in an easier way for the many citizens and tourists who love these areas”
