Rome, 13 June. (askanews) – There is growing support from trade unions and third sector associations and from mayors and administrators to the protest demonstration at 5pm in Rome in front of Montecitorio promoted by the Committees for the Withdrawal of all Differentiated Autonomy and by the NOAD Roundtable against the new law proposed by Government for differentiated autonomy between the Regions “to oppose a project – say the promoters – which splits the country”.
The event received the support and participation of the Mayors of the Association of Italian Local Authorities (Ali). “We will once again bring the position – states the association led by the Mayor of Pesaro Matteo Ricci – of the many mayors and local administrators from every part of the country who oppose the bill for differentiated autonomy. This is a reform that upsets the constitutional balance, mortifies municipal autonomy for a regional neo-centralism that Italy certainly does not need. A plan aimed at compromising fundamental rights and further weakening the fundamental structures of the State, starting from the National Health Service and the education system”.
“Article 5 of the Constitution – continues Ali – establishes the unity of the Republic as a fundamental principle to guarantee the equality of rights of male and female citizens, wherever they reside. The connection between these two founding elements of our republican history is established in the first articles of the Charter: wanting to break it means separating and marginalizing people, depending on their economic capacity and the region in which they live. It means further increasing inequalities and territorial imbalances, forever renouncing a democratic project of social justice to allow the “full development of the human person” and “the effective participation of all workers in the political, economic and social organization of the country .Italy is a country that needs mending, done with the full participation of local autonomies, not further and very dangerous splits”.
