Let’s summarize all the victories achieved by Catania in the last season. After having focused on the previous successes obtained in the championship and in the first national round of the playoffs, let’s focus on the Rossazzurri’s last success of the season against Avellino, in the next phase of the promotion play-offs. A result which, however, was not enough for Zeoli’s Catania to reach the semi-finals, given that the Irpinia team won 2-1 at “Partenio-Lombardi” in the return match.
Catania very close to achieving the feat, driven by the 1-0 inflicted in the first leg against the green and white team in a very hot “Massimino”. He remembers a victory achieved in the presence of a quality opponent but who had to deal with a Catania team who put in a lot of heart and determinationfighting on every inch of the pitch until the final whistle.
Catania immediately started off strong, driven by the heat of around 19,000 of the “Massimino” with Cianci’s left-footed shot coming out just to the right of Ghidotti. The “Massimino” explodes, becomes an infernal bedlam and Catania, on the wings of enthusiasm, continues to make itself dangerous with a fireball from Castellini directly from a free kick, Ghidotti flies and takes refuge in the corner. In the final he attacks Avellino in search of an equalizer that doesn’t arrive. In full injury time, just when Catania triggers a potentially very dangerous restart, the referee blows the whistle to end hostilities and Zeoli’s team can receive the deserved applause from the public.
