REQUALIFICATION PROJECT OF THE NORTH-WEST ENTRANCE OF FERRARA, WORK HAS STARTED IN THE AREA TO FACILITATE ROADS AND INCREASE DECORATION. 5 MILLION EURO INTERVENTION IN THE VIA MODENA – VIALE PO – VIA DEL LAVORO AND VIA MARCONI AREA

MAYOR FABBRI: “FERRARA WILL FINALLY HAVE THE ACCESS THAT A UNESCO HERITAGE CITY DESERVES TO HAVE”

Ferrara, 13 June – The redevelopment work on the North-West entrance to Ferrara started on Tuesday from via Marconi. The new route for cyclists is part of the larger urban redevelopment and regeneration project of the north-west access to the city, which relies on a PNRR investment of 4 million and 850 thousand euros.

The route includes not only the route considered in this project – which goes from the Michelini overpass to the Coop entrance – but more broadly concerns all the areas from Via Padova to the roundabout on Via del Lavoro, in front of the new bus terminal. This will allow, with further funding already allocated, partly PNRR (2nd lot urban cycle paths) and partly with regional PR-FSR, to redevelop the entire north-west entrance area of the city.

The North-West entrance will be less and less peripheral and more integrated into the centre, with a more dignified and functional road system. There will be greater attention to the environment and sustainability: the work will reduce traffic pressure, facilitate travel and create new connections, offering safety and new routes for cyclists and pedestrians.

In short, the interventions include the improvement of traffic with the creation of a two-lane road with a cycle path (as well as pavements) and a tree-lined curtain on Via Marconi, in addition to the roundabout which will intersect Via Modena and Via Marconi, eliminating the current traffic light at the intersection. Another roundabout will be built at the entrance also to allow the U-turn and return to Via Modena.

“It is a road intervention of great importance for Ferrara, because it will allow the creation of an effective and complete cycle connection capable of connecting those arriving by bicycle from the north of the city directly to the centre, to the train station and to the new bus terminal in via del Lavoro , also intercepting the Ven-To cycle path. This is also a necessary intervention from the point of view of urban decoration: for too long this strategic area, important as one of the main access centers of the city, has not had its own identity. Those who now arrive in the city from the north toll booth of the motorway have no idea that they are in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Now, with these works, this area will also become one of the calling cards that Ferrara, a UNESCO heritage city, will have. it deserves to have, both for tourists and for those who – as citizens – regularly travel through it”, declared the mayor of Ferrara, Alan Fabbri.

The contract for the works was entrusted to the temporary grouping of companies formed by Studio Mic-Hub of Milan (design studio) and Sintexcal/Boschiva as companies carrying out the works. Sintexcal is also the leader of the RTI.

Previously, the railway areas were acquired to be able to create the cycle path (on the former disused railway route which was owned by RFI) along the via Marconi-via del Lavoro axis (March 2024). The acquisitions of the former IP distributor area, now subject to reclamation, have been completed, while those of other areas included in the project are underway, as is the reclamation procedure of the central island where the Eni distributor was located.
