Amirante, Ud railway hub benefits another 40 million

The new resources allow us to continue working to double railway capacity Udine, 13 June – “Thanks to the intervention of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, through the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, new huge resources that will allow us to double the capacity of the Udine railway hub and to proceed with the process that will also allow the removal of level crossings in the city of Udine in the future: these are 40 million euros, funds that will be used to reach to complete the entire ‘phase two’ of the complex and strategic intervention, it has been prepared to ensure that the works financed to date, which have already started, and which will end in 2025, can also continue in 2026. “. This was explained by the councilor for Infrastructure and Territory of Friuli Venezia Giulia Cristina Amirante, who this afternoon, in Udine, spoke at the Council Commission on Territory and Environment convened by the municipal administration of Udine and meeting in the Ajace room, in Palazzo d’ Aronco, to examine the issue of level crossings. “The Udine railway hub is the main one for the Friuli Venezia Giulia region because it distributes goods, especially in the south-north direction, and because it manages all passenger traffic in general – recalled Amirante -. C There is therefore a need to enhance its capacity, with the addition of one more track than the current route. There is also the need to move the freight station to a position that is separate from the one intended for passengers. The operation has a total value of 280 million euros and the intervention it requires consists of six phases of work, to which is added the ‘zero phase’. The first two phases have already been financed with an amount of 127 million, to which must be added the further 40 million recently made available to RFI”. “The next step – continued the representative of the Executive – is the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the Italian railway network, the Region and the Municipality of Udine, to schedule the next investments, in such that the 280 million are financed in full, with a timetable already programmed, as well as the scheduling of the execution of the works which will lead to the much desired, necessary and desired by the entire city of Udine, elimination of level crossings “. Amirante explained to the commission how the times and costs of the intervention are respectively not short and not small due to the complexity that such a construction site requires, with railway traffic that can only be suspended in certain agreed time windows. He underlined the importance of proceeding along the path already traced in order to be able, at the end of the planned works, to write a “new page of history, not only for Udine and its citizens but for the entire region”.
