A coordination table was held today at this Government Palace in order to verify the possibilities of water supply in the municipality of Messina in relation to the summer firefighting campaign. Present at the meeting were the Mayor of the Municipality of Messina and representatives of the Provincial Command of the Fire Brigade, of the Port Authority of Messina, of the Regional Department of Civil Protection, of the Basin Authority of the Hydrographic District of Sicily, of the Forestry Corps of Sicilian Region, the Departmental Forestry Inspectorate, the Rural and Territorial Development Department, the Messina Civil Engineers, the AMAM SPA and the Water Territorial Assembly.

Due to the continuing water crisis that has hit the Sicily region and the scarcity of drinking water, the need has emerged to identify alternative sources from which to draw for extinguishing fires which could affect the Municipality, which have already occurred in recent days.

Therefore, the table decided to proceed with a mapping of non-drinking water wells, both public and private, to be adapted, with the installation of fire engines and tanks, to the supply needs of fire-fighting vehicles. The coordination of these activities, which will be completed in the next few days, will be undertaken by the early warning COC for the water crisis established at the Municipality of Messina. The same operations will then be replicated throughout the entire territory of the Metropolitan City.
