Kicking off for Italy in the match againstAlbania will be Felix Zwayerassisted by Stefan Lupp and Marco Achmuller in the role of assistants. The fourth man, however, will be Daniel SiebertWhile Christian Dingert And Bastian Dankert (Dutch and the only non-German of the refereeing team) will be at VAR. A name also known in the news. Why? The reason dates back to 2004, when the race director, then assistant, took part in one combine.
Zwayer and the match-fixing in Germany
Zwayer has had a bad past: Worthy of note is his involvement in the scandal which mainly involved his colleague Robert Hoyzer. He refereed a match with the latter in 2004 and accepted 300 euros to benefit Wuppertal SV. In January 2005 he was the referee of Italy’s next match, together with three other colleagues, confess the arbitration fix to the DFB run by Hoyzer and his involvement. Following her confession he suffered a 6 month disqualification. However, the sanction was not made public by the DFB and only came to light thanks to a journalistic investigation by Die Zeit several years later. Promotion to the Bundesliga came in 2009 since 2012 he has been named international up to the direction of Nations League final 2022/23 between Spain and Croatia.
Zwayer, the precedents with Italy and the Serie A teams
Zwayer has refereed Italy twice. The balance is positive: a win and a draw. He refereed the first match on 7 September 2018 against Poland (1-1) and then the match in the qualifying round for the European Championships on 17 November 2023 against Macedonia (5-2). The German also has precedents with the club teams in our championship: six wins, four draws and five defeats. One of the last in the Champions League last season: the quarter-finals between Naples and the Barcelona. Now the German referee has put the past behind him and the Azzurri fans hope that he will have a positive day.
