A delegation led by Hanna Laurén, Counselor of the Finnish Embassy in Italy for smart mobility and digitalisation – who had already met President Rossi last October – and composed, among others, of Markku Alahäme, Technical Director of the Port of Turku, and representatives of Finnish state bodies such as Traficom, the Finnish Transport and Communication Agency and Fintraffic, the transport agency, which manages roads, railways, ports and airports in Finland, met on Wednesday 12 June with the General Secretary of the Authority Port of Ravenna, Fabio Maletti, together with Angelo Mazzotti, Head of the Department for the Digital Transition and the ICT team of the institution.

The meeting, which was also attended by representatives of Finnish companies operating in the communications and mobility sector, was centered on the process of digitalisation in progress in Finnish and Italian ports.

In fact, in Ravenna the Port Authority has been pushing for a strong implementation of digitalisation processes for some time technological innovation of the entire system and was therefore able to bring his own experience, describing the many projects that are being implemented or recently concluded for a useful comparison with the Finnish experiences and to explore possible cooperation opportunities, also in the context of the maritime one-stop shop (European Maritime Single Window).

In the port of Ravenna an infrastructure of approximately 30 km fiber optic, serving the entire port area. There are now plans to extend the fiber optic cabling, renovate the wifi network and cover the entire port area with private 5G technology.

Among the projects of digitalization and innovationthe project called Open Digital Twin port is underway, i.e. the creation of a “digital twin” of the Port of Ravenna which will allow the creation of a virtual replica of the port on which many activities can be simulated and planned, including dredging and maintenance , evaluating possible interferences and ensuring greater coordination and safety in their execution, also being able to simulate the consequences of extreme weather conditions or natural disasters.

For ever greater dematerialization of documents in the port area and online management of all administrative processes, a digital one-stop shop has been established in the port of Ravenna, with particular attention to simplifying, streamlining, making procedures relating to the issuing of authorizations and carrying out the procedures necessary for the exercise of activities relating to the management and use of maritime state property and for other administrative procedures within the competence of the Port System Authority. Naturally, in parallel, to guarantee maximum IT security, innovative technological solutions have been adopted to mitigate the risk of suffering serious damage following attacks on the network.
