Seventeen candidates during the public competition to join the Police Force would have sent more prepared people to the entrance tests by passing them off as themselves. Among these, 11 would have managed to pass and win the competition thanks to the replacement of person. Specifically, we are talking about a carabiniere student, a firefighter, three penitentiary officers and six policemen. The other 6 suspects, despite the scam, would still have been rejected.
Calligraphic expertise is decisive
These are the Law Enforcement selections held between 2017 and 2021. After an initial proceeding closed due to lack of evidence, the Rome Prosecutor’s Office reopened the case by investigating the 17 candidates for fraud and impersonation. As stated in the indictment issued by the public administration “they obtained the unfair profit from passing the competitive exam with subsequent enlistment in the Corps. To which they also caused financial damage: competition costs, hiring costs, undue salary paid”. The handwriting report on the exam papers appears to have unmasked the culprits, as it did not coincide with the true identity of the candidates.
