This was made clear, among others, by the minister Francesco Lollobrigida: “I don’t know if it was appropriate to have a G7 in which the Pope also participates, if they chose not to put it there must be a reason and a more than acceptable reason”, he commented . Irritation transpires from US circles, so much so that the White House, through National Security Advisor Jack Sullivan, releases a statement: «Joe Biden won’t give in on rights, he will talk about it with Giorgia Meloni». Locked up in the luxury resort Borgo Egnazia, in Fasano, world leaders will have to give the final green light to the final text of this G7. The Sherpas of the participating countries have already prepared the possible final draft, which is still subject to modifications.
L’Handlewho viewed the draft in preview, it reports the passage in which, previously, abortion was spoken of. It reads: «We reiterate our commitments expressed in the final communiqué of the G7 in Hiroshima for universal, adequate and sustainable access to health services for women, including reproductive rights». In the Japanese G7 statement, however, the word “abortion” was explicit.
