The soldiers of the Operational and Radiomobile Unit of the Carabinieri Company of Arezzo, as part of the services aimed at protecting citizens, in particular the most vulnerable, from episodes of common crime, arrested a man accused of having stolen the wallet of an elderly man. The episode occurred on Thursday morning, outside the Civil Hospital of Arezzo.
The elderly man, a 72-year-old man, who was with his wife, was walking near the covered car park in via Laschi when he was approached by the robber. Suddenly and from behind, the criminal pushed the elderly man and, after beating him, took his wallet from his pocket. The woman and man, although in shock, immediately asked passers-by for help, who promptly alerted the police.
The operations center sent several patrols to the scene, which began a search for the suspect. Thanks to the precise descriptions provided by the victims, the Radiomobile police managed to identify the perpetrator of the robbery within a few minutes.
The suspected man, an illegal foreigner, already known to the police for previous crimes against property and drugs, was identified in via Masaccio, at the entrance to Pionta Park. During the identification phases, the man initially attempted to escape on foot, once reached by the soldiers, who chased him, he resisted the arrest phases.
The arrested person, who had already disposed of the stolen goods, was taken to the barracks for the investigation of the case and subsequently, on the orders of the Arezzo AG, was transferred to the Arezzo prison, awaiting the validation hearing.
He will have to answer for the crime of aggravated robbery and resisting a public official.
The victim, although still shaken by the incident, did not suffer physical injuries and was comforted by the military and on this occasion, the two spouses expressed feelings of esteem and appreciation for the timely and coordinated work of the military which allowed quickly resolve a case that could have had much more serious consequences.
The investigation continues to ascertain whether the arrested person may be involved in other similar incidents that have recently occurred in the area.
This refers to respecting the rights of the persons under investigation, who are to be considered presumed innocent in consideration of the current phase of the proceedings – preliminary investigations – until a definitive finding of guilt with an irrevocable sentence, and in order to ensure the constitutionally guaranteed right to freedom of the press.
