MESSINA – From Palmi, Gioia Tauro, Villa San Giovanni and even from Trentino. A huge crowd, or rather of faithful, at the feet of Saint Anthony in Messina. Already in the early hours of the morning the sanctuary was visited by several hundred devotees. arrived by coach on the day of Saint Anthony of Padua. A solemn mass with Archbishop Giovanni Accolla is scheduled for today’s afternoon.
In general, celebrations for the saint are underway these days. “The event, promoted by the rector of the Basilica, Father Mario Magro, and sponsored by the Municipality of Messina, is a unique event that allows visitors, citizens and tourists to experience evenings of joy and socialization in the name of faith and tradition in the name of the great Saint”, underline the organizers.
The white night and the procession
Father Mario underlines that “many faithful of Sant’Antonio prefer to come to Messina instead of going to Padua, with the Basilica which is becoming a point of reference for the faith. Apart from the white night there will be the Antonio dei Miracoli event, with a director from Palermo who wanted to pay homage to him”.
The key events are Saturday and Sunday. The Notte Bianca for Sant’Antonio returns on Saturday 15 June from 8pm to 1am. On Sunday 16 June, at 7.30 pm, the solemn procession of the Triumphal Chariot will begin.
