A slap to the professor who had marked his unjustified absence. And another teacher ended up in hospital after failing one of his students. Two stories of ordinary school violence against teachers come from Sicily. The first, tells the Sicilian edition of today Republic, happened at the Liceo Cannizzaro in Palermo. Where a 16-year-old hit a teacher for a note: “We were in second period and the boy wasn’t among the desks,” says the victim. «I waited about twenty minutes to understand where it had ended up and then I noted the absence in the register as usual. At that point he, who certainly read it live on the electronic register with his cell phone, showed up in the courtroom.” With a provocative attitude: «And as he approached he gave me a slap on the neck so loud that it left a mark on the skin».
Violent schools
Anna Maria Catalano, head teacher of Cannizzaro, reported the boy to the police. «At the Disciplinary Council all interested parties will be heard, the witnesses of the facts and also the parents. If we decide to suspend our school, it will involve carrying out hours of volunteer work in some associations involved in the area”, she says. The other episode of violence occurred in Milazzo in the Leonardo Da Vinci technical institute. The school had summoned the parents of the minor student to let them know that their son would have to repeat the year. The boy waited for his father and mother to come out to attack the teacher with punches and kicks. The principal Stefania Scolaro also notified the police in this case.
The conditions of the teacher
When he fell, the teacher also hit his head. He is now at the Giuseppe Fogliani hospital in Milazzo for tests. The parents do not seem to have known anything about their son’s intentions: «According to what they told me, the boy suddenly arrived, went up to the first floor and attacked the teacher. That, when he fell, he also hit his head. It is a very unpleasant episode and one to be condemned. And we’re very sorry. Also because we have always sought constructive discussion, both with families and with students.”
