A 26-year-old originally from Sri Lanka was arrested by the Monza State Police for aggravated assault after he would a 36-year-old Italian resident in Monza was attacked near a bar in the Brianza capital with a broken bottle, causing injuries to his backa with a prognosis of 14 days.

Events that occurred on the night of Sunday 9 June, around 3am, when an emergency call arrived at the Police Headquarters operations center reporting the presence, near the bar, of the victim lying on the ground and covered in blood.

From what was reconstructed on site by the officers it emerged that the the alleged attacker approached a group of people, including the victim, asking if they had any narcotic substance to give him.

If the answer was negative, the stranger would have walked away only to then return to ask for more drugs, of another type, and to second negative response would have resulted in a violent argument during which the man would have picked up a bottle of beer and, once broken on the ground, he first pointed it at the face of the 36-year-old from Monza and then used it to reach him in the back with several blows.

He would then return shortly after with one iron baseball bat trying to hit the victim again, and then finally fleeing.

The agents, through the initial information collected, managed to trace the details of the alleged perpetrator, the 26-year-old Sri Lankan, legally on the national territory, traced near his home where the handrail and the doorbell were stained with blood and the 26-year-old himself had “obvious blood stains on hands and clothes”.

The arrest was therefore triggered, subsequently validated, and the precautionary measure of the obligation to remain at home during the night was ordered.
