I am 3,302 deaths reported in 2023 in the province of Benevento, updated in recent hours by Istat. The deaths, which occurred due to various causes during the year, are down sharply compared to the previous five years but an increase compared to ten years ago. The causes that have a decisive impact on the shortening of the life of the Samnite population are linked above all to cardiovascular and oncological diseases and limited in particular to adults, in an age group over 60 years of age, while violent deaths, due to the use of narcotic substances, road accidents and at work, concern a decidedly small number of citizens which amounts to around a hundred unit.
Feminicides have been completely absent in the last 8 yearswith only six cases, which remained at the “attempt” stage because they were not consumed, between 2019 and 2021. In 2022, 3,505 deaths were recorded in Sannio, 203 more than in 2023, therefore, in the last reference year, the number of people who passed to a “better life” decreased by 5.79% compared to the previous year and to the escalation recorded in 2021, 2020 and 2019, which ended, in order, with 3,588, 3,487 and 3,976 deaths. Obviously, the increase in deaths in the three-year period between 2019 and 2022 was affected by both Covid and its direct consequences, also linked to poor screening activity and timely diagnostic and outpatient services.
An aftermath that continued into 2023as the tendency of users to avoid medical clinics for fear of contagion has led a large part of the population to underestimate and neglect symptoms attributable to important diseases. 1,413 deaths due to cardiovascular diseases are included in the blacklist, in addition to 164 due to acute myocardial infarction and 384 due to ischemic heart diseases. On the other hand, there are 816 cancer patients who didn’t make it out of 5,500 people who got sick over the years and 1,200 who get sick on average every year.
They are also 188 deaths from respiratory diseases. Certainly, the disease survival rate ten years after onset, not to be confused with total remission, is very high and reaches almost 60% of cases but in any case cancer is the disease that, more than others, continues to claim victims , together with cardiovascular diseases. 178 deaths from endocrine, nutritional and metabolic diseases, 147 patients who died from complications of diabetes mellitus; 421 from cerebrovascular diseases, 189 deaths from respiratory diseases, 20 from influenza and pneumonia. The categories those in the age group c are most affectedbetween the ages of 70 and 90, while infant and adolescent mortality is almost non-existent.
However, in the last three years the number of sudden deaths in adolescence has increased and among adults up to 50 years of age, although it still remains below the guard level. In 2013, the number of deaths recorded by Istat was 3,170, with an incidence 132 units lower than the current one. A fact that makes us think because we must take into account the decrease in the Samnite population linked to the migratory flow of the last decade.
