The preliminary hearing for the suspects involved in the Scirocco investigation into bad purification in Calabria began yesterday in the bunker courtroom in Lamezia Terme. The investigators are convinced that they have revealed the existence of a real criminal association which for years would have illegally managed a large part of the purification in Calabria. Yesterday in front of the magistrate Arianna Roccia the parties were formed. The prosecutors Paolo Sirleo, Domenico Guarascio And Domenico Assumma they requested the indictment of 28 people and 5 corporate structures. In this first hearing, the bodies and institutions that had been identified by the Prosecutor’s Office as offended parties, starting from the Ministry of the Environment represented by the State Attorney’s Office and then the Calabria Region, the metropolitan city of Reggio, the Provinces and dozens of municipalities. The lawyer Francesco Gigliotti, defender of a worker involved in the investigation, spoke on the constitution of local administrations. The Roccia judge will decide whether or not to admit the civil parties in the next hearing scheduled for June 25th.
At the center of the reconstruction of the Prosecutor’s Office are the companies attributable to the Minieri group. The holding would have participated in tenders for the management of detention facilities, offering significant discounts, even over 50%. The Minieri entrepreneurs would have reduced management costs by saving on the treatment and disposal of the sludge produced by the treatment of urban waste water but also on the ordinary and extraordinary maintenance required by the tender specifications.
