The Day Surgery Facility opens in Olbia

Olbia. The new Day Surgery service within the Giovanni Paolo II Hospital has been active since Monday. The department is located on the first floor of the hospital. A team made up of two surgeons, four nurses and a social-health worker will take care of patients who need to carry out small operations under local anesthesia, with hospitalizations lasting just a few hours. Surgeon Antonio Pintus is responsible for the Simple Day Surgery Structure, located within the Department of Medium Intensity Acute Pathology directed by Doctor Luigi Presenti.

“We will be able to carry out operations that fall within the scope of Day Surgery – states Pintus – such as wall hernias, fistulas of not particularly large dimensions, hemorrhoids and fissures”. The Day Surgery units were created as medical-surgical complexes with a specialized imprint. able to offer, in the shortest possible time, a qualified surgical service to selected patients for whom a prolonged stay in a clinic or hospital is not necessary «We are the only ones in Sardinia to have a Day Surgery unit in spaces dedicated and autonomous – continues Doctor Antonio Pintus – and we calculate that we will be able to carry out around twenty operations a week. Patients come to us in the morning, we prepare them for the operation under local anesthesia and at the end we monitor them for a few hours, and then. proceed to resign”.

“After several years from its creation, the Day Surgery Structure is finally a reality – underlines the Health Director of the Gallura ASL, Raffaele De Fazio – and this will produce many positive aspects, starting with the reduction of waiting lists. Then there are the advantages for patients and their families, because the reduced length of stay allows them to immediately resume their lifestyle habits. Furthermore, the presence of family members on site is a further comfort for those who have to undergo the operation it also means reducing costs for the community. We are really satisfied with this objective desired, pursued and finally achieved by our Company Management and we wish all the staff of the new unit good luck”.
