Polls open within five months in the event of early resignation of the president of the Emilia-Romagna council: elections must be called within three months and take place within the following two months. The Legislative Assembly approved with the votes of the majority an amendment proposed by the council which modifies the rules for voting in Emilia-Romagna. A change which, according to Alberto Zattini, director of Ascom-Confcommercio Forlì, will also have to bring with it changes in terms of territorial representation and distribution of resources.
“As a trade association we have been denouncing these imbalances for some time and now, in light of the provision approved by the Legislative Assembly, we believe the time has come to review the provision as a whole”. Ascom asks the newly elected mayors to be spokespersons for this request: “Let them, the administrators of the Romagna territories, ask for different rules, to ask for the establishment of the Romagna Region. The Romagna question is neither a right nor left issue : let’s take the opportunity and think in terms of a concrete change.”
Alberto Zattini continues: “The forces of the majority and the opposition, as the history of recent years tells us, have not managed to find an adequate balance between Emilia and Romagna. Or rather: the Emilians have found this balance, to the detriment of our territory One fact seems clear to everyone: Romagna does not have the same dignity as the other part of the region. The imbalance between the two territories is evident, with regional councilors mainly coming from Emilia and resources always going in greater quantities towards this area. We reiterate: given that the political forces have not been able to find the right balance, why not work towards an autonomy for Romagna, with a different and no longer penalizing distribution of resources and institutional structures – until the birth of the Romagna Region – decided and promoted by the mayors of Forlì, Cesena, Ravenna and Rimini”. Politics, reiterates Zattini, “is not capable of giving adequate dignity to the Romagna territory. Time has run out”.
