After Michelozzo’s Courtyard in Palazzo Vecchio and the Pecci Center in Prato, the artistic works protagonists of Second Life have returned to make a stop in Florence on the occasion of Pitti Immagine Uomo 106, an internationally important event for men’s fashion, which since yesterday and for four days it is staged at the Fortezza da Basso.

For the occasion, Alia Multiutility, in partnership with Firenze Fiera, promoted a special event with the artistic exhibition linked to the third edition of the ‘Second Life, everything comes back’ contest.

The inauguration took place yesterday evening in the lemon house of Villa Vittoria at the Palazzo dei Congressi (piazza Adua 1, Florence), where from yesterday until 14 June and then from 19th to 21st, from 9am to 6.30pm, visitors can admire 30 works (selected from over 130 candidates) created by young Italian and foreign artists, who wanted to explore the profound connections between art and the defense of the Planet. The initiative, included in the official Pitti Uomo 2024 calendar and in collaboration with Firenze Fiera, but also underlines the crucial importance of sustainability in fashion – which in the fast fashion version represents one of the most unsustainable industries in the world – and in contemporary art .

«When art and fashion come together for a common purpose, as in this exhibition, they create a dialogue capable of motivating and inspiring change – comments Lorenzo Perra, president of Alia Multiutility – For the young artists who participate in this exhibition, exhibit their works during Pitti Uomo represents an unprecedented opportunity and we are happy to be able to give them this stage.”

Thanks to Alia’s commitment, over the last three years the ‘Second Life’ competition has involved almost 400 young artists (all under 28 years old) in an original reflection on the theme of the world in transformation, especially from the environmental, inspiring narratives and works that concern the entire cycle of sustainability: environmental, social and economic.

«Seeing Firenze Fiera alongside Alia as co-organizer of the event is not accidental – adds Lorenzo Becattini, president of Firenze Fiera – as our company in recent years has undertaken a whole series of activities in the field of sustainability which allowed it to be among the first exhibition-congress districts in Italy to obtain ISO 20121 certification, the coveted recognition which establishes the application of ‘good practices’ of sustainable event management. The exhibition which turns the spotlight on the various proposals of young artists on the theme of recycling, environmental protection and urban decoration, is part of the cultural events that Firenze Fiera is carrying out for the valorization of the historical-artistic heritage of its spaces”.
