She was arrested last May 31 in Pakistan. Now Nazia Shaheen, Saman Abbas’ mother, has given her consent to extradition and has not applied to be released on bail. She had been on the run since May 1, 2021, the day she returned to Pakistan from Novellara, together with her husband, who was arrested and then also extradited about a year ago. The woman was arrested on May 31st: she had been found in a village on the border with Kashmir, as part of the investigative activities carried out in collaboration with Interpol and the Pakistani Federal Police. Once the arrest was confirmed, she was transferred from Gujranwala to the Pakistani capital Islamabad. And, finally, in the maximum security prison in Adyala awaiting trial. According to the judges of the Assize Court, who sentenced Saman’s parents to life imprisonment and her uncle Danis Hasnain to 14 years, the woman «actively participated in the moments in which her daughter’s fate was decided and «the decision to kill the girl was agreed upon by her parents during phone calls with Danish Hasnain.” In the trial papers we read, in fact, that «the defendants, Shabbar Abbas (Saman’s father, ed) and Nazia Shaheena literally accompanied their daughter to her death.” The young woman’s body was found in November 2022 by Hasnai in a grave near the farmhouse where she lived, in Novellara, in the province of Reggio Emilia.
