two days with my head in the ropes

Guitars from Southern Italy, unite. It is renewed today and tomorrow, Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th Junethe appointment with GuitarSció, the first festival in Southern Italy dedicated to rock’s most iconic instrument.

It repeats for the third consecutive year a challenge that is based on six strings, in the sign of a continuity that is both a bet and a promise, but changes coordinates, and moves from the Villa Comunale of Battipaglia to the club La Tana del Blascoin nearby Pontecagnano Faiano, where the MIUSIC Association has set up a menu for all tasteswith a two-day event that embraces the entire guitar constitutional range.

The main dish of this evening bears the name of Andre Nieri, a Brazilian phenomenon capable of dominating the hybrid picking technique like few others in the world, which by combining fingers and plectrum allows you to explore very wide and highly effective intervals. His style is a refined cocktail that mixes Latin, jazz, rock and metal.

Before him, from 9pm, performances are scheduled on stage A by the young Frank Cara, an artist of Cilento origin who ranges between rock, metal and fusion, already highly appreciated in Italy and the United States, and by Daniele Cordisco, a jazz player with a modern language accompanied on bass by the Salerno native Dario Deidda. The decibels promise to increase with Andrea Braidoone of the most famous Italian guitarists, who in the first edition of GuitarSció, two years ago, was the protagonist of a memorable duet with the acclaimed Sicilian guitar hero Matteo Mancuso. This time the Trentino guitarist, who in his long and rich career has lent his unmistakable guitar to Vasco Rossi, Mina, Zucchero, Eros Ramazzotti and many other artists, will propose with his trio a repertoire of hard rock classics of the 70s, from Led Zeppelin to Deep Purple, passing through the inevitable Jimi Hendrix, a totem that has never been abandoned for many generations.

There second daythe one of Tomorrow, consolidates the quality level of the festival with the debutant Davide Ciura, followed by the tightrope walker of the classical and modern guitar Andrea Chiarini, an Italian living in the States, one of the most followed Italian musicians on social media thanks to his very personal reworkings of rock and metal songs . In addition to Braido, the exhibition also welcomes another welcome return, that of Ciro Manna, talent from Caserta and co-artistic director of GuitarSvò. Manna, one of the most sought-after session musicians in Italy, a permanent presence in the orchestras of Rai and Mediaset productions and alongside Gigi D’Alessio, will be accompanied on this occasion by the vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Patrix Duenas for an explosive funky concert. The task of closing the intense two days of shows, presented by journalist Ilaria Cuomo, is entrusted to the highly appreciated American bluesman Eric Steckel.

To act as an appetizer and as a side dish to the main course, which is naturally music, an area dedicated to the display of handcrafted and vintage instruments, guitar accessories such as effects, plectrums and amplifiers, making up a small toyland for professionals and enthusiasts. Today and tomorrow, from 5.30pm, it will be possible to attend for free the busy calendar of demo sessions proposed by various musicians on stage B and try firsthand the products displayed in the stands. This year, some specialized vinyl retailers will also enrich the offer.

«With this edition we wanted to increase the scope of the GuitarSció experience», explains Gianluca Lenza, president of APS MIUSIC and organizer of the event. «The first two years – he continues – were a positive test, but we were not satisfied. We brought the show to Tana del Blasco, where in recent months we had already staged international concerts such as those of Greg Koch and Stef Burns. The Tana stage is one of the best that Campania can offer, not to mention the already loyal audience who knows the venue for both its musical and gastronomic offerings. We have also changed the period of our event to distance it from the many summer concerts. In this regard, we expect a greater turnout of musicians among the public: unlike past years, when the concerts took place from Friday to Sunday, days in which they are often busy playing, we have in fact chosen to place the festival during the week precisely to allow them to see and listen our concerts live.”
