“Situation that penalizes the citizens of Teramo and Abruzzo”
“For the umpteenth time, Teramo healthcare will pay a very high bill due to the mismanagement of this delicate sector by the regional centre-right led by Marsilio and Verì”. This was underlined by the Regional Councilor of the Democratic Party Sandro Mariani after the hearing held yesterday afternoon in the Fifth Commission (Health, Social Security, Culture, Training and Work) by the General Director Maurizio Di Giosia and the leaders of the Teramo Local Health Authority, during of which the thorny question of the state of the accounts of the four Abruzzo local health authorities was addressed in view of the preparation of a “painful” account recovery plan which will have to be implemented at the “skin of the Abruzzo people” due to the deficit recorded in 2023 by the regional health system.
“Despite the fact that in his speech Director Di Giosia claimed that the Teramo Local Health Authority is the one that has reported the best result compared to the other provinces, with a deficit which in 2023 recorded a minus of 7,749,990.93 euros caused, in his opinion say, from the extraordinary events he listed, he nevertheless highlighted how some systemic and structural situations will lead, at present, to a much worse deficit for 2024 which will be around minus 28 million euros” declares Mariani. “Hearing the cold numbers of the Teramo and Abruzzo healthcare systems being aired, unfortunately I can only deduce that the new regional hospital network, heralded several times by the centre-right, will no longer be feasible as it is economically unsustainable given certain accounts in the red”.
“The damage will most likely also be combined with a double insult for the citizens of Teramo” continues the Regional Councilor of the Democratic Party. “In fact, I asked during the V Commission how the Abruzzo Region and the Teramo Local Health Authority intend to continue to support the “promise” of a mortgage to finance the construction of the new “Mazzini” hospital in Teramo, with such a state of instability! Of course I didn’t get any response! Absolute panic then when I asked why the Teramo Local Health Authority, with an operating loss equal to the aforementioned 7,749,990.93 euros, should be subjected to a rationalization plan like the other regional health authorities which have much worse situations given that the ASL 01 Avezzano, L’Aquila, Sulmona recorded a minus of 46,115,868.00 euros and ASL 02 Lanciano, Vasto, Chieti recorded a minus of 41,951,118.00 euros! Do you know what the answer to my question was? Obviously silence here too!!!”.
“Unfortunately, confusion still reigns supreme regarding the state of health of Abruzzo’s healthcare accounts and, as always, the losers will be our citizens who will see services decrease and will find themselves having to deal with healthcare that is increasingly far from standards. of the other regions of central Italy due to center-right mismanagement in Abruzzo” concludes Sandro Mariani.
