REGIONAL ELECTIONS – After the failure to re-elect Diego Sarno in the Democratic Party, relations between Nichelino and Moncalieri become tense

There will be tense days in the Democratic Party between Nichelino and Moncalieri after the failure to re-elect the outgoing councilor Diego Sarno, of Nichelino. For him 3809 votes: too few, on the eve the expectations were very different. In the hours following the certification of the failed re-election, the finger was immediately pointed at Moncalieri. The votes that “should” have arrived also thanks to the ticket with Sivia Di Crescenzo did not arrive from that Municipality: «70% of my preferences from Nichelino also went to help Di Crescenzo with the double choice. In reverse? I received only 25% of his preferences from Moncalieri. I am satisfied with the vote in Nichelino (1365 votes against 1691 five years ago with much less favorable situations) but we will open a comparison with Moncalieri. I am and we are ready to restart and continue territorial work.” Sarno doesn’t say it, but the bitterness is great. The former councilor says he is satisfied with the votes obtained in the city by Nichelino, but some calculations will inevitably have to be made. Sarno was supported, on paper, also by the Communists of councilor Verzola and by the Chreo civic list. Basically from the entire Nichelino council, minus Azzolina.

The Pd Moncalieri-Nichelino territorial pact is currently creaking a lot, beyond the superficial declarations. In the hours following the election result, the first rags would fly with more or less veiled accusations of a sort of targeted boycott. The mayor of Moncalieri, Paolo Montagna, remarked that «The work of the Sarno regional councilor was fruitful and today the party is stronger than before. Let’s continue the work.” In essence, an attempt to calm things down.

Antonio Landolfi, PD secretary of Nichelino and area coordinator admits that: “For Diego Sarno the expectations were different, even in Nichelino a few more votes were imagined. The fact of having three powerful candidates like him in the same area on the same PD list , Pompeo and Di Crescenzo inevitably causes a division of votes. Why was it done? I don’t know (he smiles ironically, ed.) perhaps because we are better at it.”
