The long-awaited new edition of the guide to the paths of the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni is hot off the press, created by Asvicai, the association of the 14 CAI sections of the province of Vicenza, with the 1:25,000 scale map produced together with the Tabacco publishing house .

This new version, the eighth, records important changes compared to the previous one, and in particular the changes introduced in the routes after the upheavals caused on the Plateau by the Vaia storm.

Saturday 22 June at 11am at the San Paolo bookshopin Corso Cesare Battisti 7 in Vicenza, the coordinator of Asvicai Barbara Ronzani, the president of the CAI section of Asiago Antonio Paganin and the CAI cultural naturalistic operator Orazio Azzolini will present the guide and map.

It will be an opportunity to reflect on the beauty of the highland mountains and the impact produced on that fragile environment both by continuously developing tourism and by the effects of climate change.

The new card

Moreover, it was the Mediterranean storm Vaia, which also hit the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni on the evening of 29 October 2018 with hurricane-level wind gusts and heavy rain, that caused the extensive damage to the paths which forced the redesign of some routes , reported in the new map.

In particular, the Cippi path (CAI trail sign 869) in the Enego area has been modified and now entirely follows the border line between Veneto and Trentino.

Numerous small variations of many other paths have also been included in the map.

The places of the Great War eco-museum, the mountain bike routes, the places of memory of Mario Rigoni Stern have been redefined and snowshoe routes have also been added.

All CAI paths are marked in red, while the Peace path, the European path and the Great War high route (AVGG) are indicated in green.

The quality of the cartography, the careful use of toponyms and the care in indicating the wooded parts remain intact.

The new paper, with dimensions of 112.5 x 70 cm and 12.5 x 23.5 cm when folded, was made of totally eco-friendly, rainproof and tearproof plasticized paper.

The guide has also been completely revised, both in the descriptive part of the paths and in the informative part, with indications of publications in the area and contact details of the main structures. A part of the guide remains dedicated to safety and first aid.

The eighth edition of the map of the paths of the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni joins the other three topographic maps and guides created by Asvicai for the areas of Pasubio-Carega, Valdastico-Altopiani Trentini and the Canale del Brenta and Massif del Grappa.

These maps are the result of the work of a group of competent members of the Vicenza sections of the CAI with profound knowledge of the mountains, driven by a passion for cartography and a perfect knowledge of the needs of hikers.

The updating of the map of the Altopiano dei sette Comuni was achieved in particular thanks to the commitment of the members Antonio Paganin, Bruno Vajente, Sergio Pigato and Enrico Manea.

Map and guide are on sale for 15 euros in bookshops and 12 euros for members only in the 14 branches of the Vicenza sections of the CAI.
