The right-wing wind that pushes Italy and Europe appears mitigated in Viareggio by left-wing currents. But the real hurricane that hit the elections for the renewal of the European Parliament is disaffection, with abstention growing more than all sides. In Italy as in the city, where only 48.05% of eligible voters voted against 54.59% in the last round.

In Viareggio Fratelli d’Italia, with “Giorgia” the absolute queen of preferences (premier Giorgia Meloni alone collected 2,727, confirming here too the centrality of her leadership within the party, followed by Francesco Torselli, with 317 preferences, and Nicola Procaccini, 237), received 6,478 votes, equal to 27.34% (with an impressive progression compared to the 2019 European elections, when Fd’I was at 4.84, but with a drop in absolute terms, and in line with abstention, compared to the 2022 policies both in the province and in Viareggio). And it surpasses the Democratic Party by only 69 votes (6,409 votes), which therefore with the leadership of Elly Schlein (who on the shores of the Tyrrhenian Sea received 1,005 preferences, a few more than the outgoing mayor of Florence Dario Nardella, who obtained 793 ), recovers consensus on a provincial basis and is confirmed, net of abstentionism, substantially also in the city with respect to the 2022 policies.

The Green Alliance on the Left (with 2,119 votes) in Viareggio receives more support than the League, stuck at 1,657 votes despite the driving force of the adopted Viareggio Roberto Vannacci (the general is a bronze medal among the leaders with 909 direct preferences, more than double compared to those obtained by the outgoing MEP Susanna Ceccardi) and Forza Italia (1,443). Thus the sum of the votes to the left of the Democratic Party, collected between Avs and Pace Terra e Dignità (922), is equivalent to that of Lega and Forza Italia.

The Five Star Movement, on the other hand, confirms itself as the third party in the city (as well as in the country), despite a progressive decline in support that does not allow it to even reach double figures, which it had significantly exceeded both in the 2022 elections and in the 2019 European elections. The head of the list Gianluca Ferrara, a former senator and also from Viareggio, obtained 220 preferences in his city.

Despite being shunned by the quorum, which at a national level bars entry to the United States of Europe in Strasbourg, the lawyer Silvia Bertolucci, municipal councilor of Viareggio in the Del Ghingaro List, achieved a good personal result, surpassing even the leader with 443 preferences Matteo Renzi (353 preferences). The liberal front, split between Renzi and Calenda, ultimately emerged defeated at the polls.
