The tomb is not empty! In our small way we can do something big
We receive and publish a note from a spontaneous group of citizens of Soveria Mannelli who complain about the lack of a healthcare facility suited to the needs of the population and of an adequate road connecting with the City of Catanzaro.
Below is the letter:
In the Reventino Valley, in the city of Soveria Mannelli, it is not abstentionism that makes the news, but the heartfelt, strong, legitimate, peaceful, reasoned, motivated and confident cry of a spontaneous group of citizens who become “sowers of a new mentality: United for a common need!”: First the hospital and “the road that doesn’t exist… then my trust!
Without a health facility adequate for the needs of a border area, disadvantaged and increasingly isolated in a hinterland that does not even guarantee an adequate and practicable road, in a reasonable time, to reach the city of Catanzaro, tired of politicians’ regularly unfulfilled promises of the right, left, center, side, below and above, have decided that they will no longer give their vote to anyone from now on if they do not obtain concrete and definitive solutions.
Convinced that the right to vote is one of the most important democratic achievements of the individual, they first invited citizens to honor, defend and exercise it and then decided that their vote would be null but not meaningless! Not a group of naive and naive people, but of men, women, mothers, fathers, young people who want to make an effort with any possible, lawful, civil, shared, peaceful action not to succumb to the inevitability of “It’s of no use anyway”.
We know well that everything seems in vain, just as we recognize the thoughts of those who repeat, with a conception of cause, that everything is decided in the control rooms.
To those who legitimately argued that there is no point in going to vote, we said, with honesty and respect, that we consider this to be the biggest mistake because lives have been lost for the exercise of an unparalleled right to freedom.
We know that there is no need for blank or invalid ballots, just as we believe it is unacceptable and unacceptable to blatantly burn ballots and everything else, in a normal, serious and healthy civil and political context. To those who reminded us that the null ballot is a non-vote, while respecting their thesis, we shared our disagreement.
We have agreed with those who maintain that invalid ballots are a foolish rumination of those who do not know the electoral mechanisms and want to throw out the bath water with the baby.
We don’t know these political mechanisms and we don’t want to know them given the results obtained so far by supporting with passion and loyalty those who knew them well.
We have, for decades, voted and tried to demand… but it has always been in vain! To those who maintain, with good reason, that the noble political art cannot be passion but must be competence, we ask for forgiveness.
Our intent is not to be political technicians (there are already many in activity), but to awaken.
Every day what we find among our people is the absence of hope for change and total distrust in the institutions.
With 63 null votes and 14 blanks, for a total of 77 voters, with 41 votes more than Action with Calenda, with 16 votes more than Lega Salvini, with 9 votes more than Alleanza Verdi Sinistra and 4 votes more than Forza Italy, it is officially announced that the light of hope is not extinguished in this city.
We also have faith that new flames will light up and become a bright spot of truth and desire for redemption in the entire Reventino area.
A resounding response, not organized in time and even more so significant and a harbinger of joy and optimism.
Strengthened by the certainty that those who sow do not often reap the fruits immediately, but that others will reap them and benefit from them… they confirm, to those who today wish to downplay this novelty, that they will not give up nor will they concede never more free trust to mortify, disappoint, disregard.
To those who think that we will be yet another country party that wants to leverage territorial and social needs and critical issues to extort future consensus, as has been done so far by those who have abandoned us, we reiterate that we are tired and this is not our immediate aim create other parties…Other lists….
No more associations without real representation.
We dream of the awareness of an attentive, demanding, involved, prodding people, who make themselves respected even with the lists and political and institutional representatives present who we invite, from now on, to accept our cry of need in order to be able to capitalize on the adequate tables, giving certainty that we will not vote differently in any future electoral campaign if we do not obtain satisfaction.
We are not asking for the moon, but rather for a connecting road which will not only be vital for our Reventino area, but an opportunity for the whole of Calabria.
It would be the new state road 19 of Calabria and would represent a driving force for concrete development, possible and due to our hinterland.
Nothing against the present pro-hospital committees, those of the Road that doesn’t exist, who will be able to, and we hope will, clarify with us that… the air has changed in the Reventino!
The written page is not a new one from the same book, but it is a very strongly decided new beginning and motivated by an urgent need!
Good politics is the sum of our every single vote!
“Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible. And suddenly you will catch yourself doing the impossible” (St. Francis of Assisi).
And again Paolo Borsellino: “Each in their own little way, each for what they can, each for what they know”.
The city of Soveria Mannelli has made these two invitations its own and the first and most important results have already been counted!
We have seen that the “stone before the tomb” is rolling. We assure you that it is only the beginning of a redemption that has been awaited for too long.
