‘Ndrangheta, assets worth one million confiscated from gang affiliate

‘Ndrangheta in Reggio Calabria, seals on Domenico Foti’s assets

Assets worth one million euros were confiscated from Domenico Foti, 63 years old known as “Vecchia Romagna”, believed to be a member of the Labate gang from Gebbione, a neighborhood on the southern outskirts of Reggio Calabria.

This was established by the Prevention Measures section of the Reggio Court which accepted the request of the prosecutor Giovanni Bombardieri and the deputies Walter Ignazitto and Stefano Musolino.

The measure was carried out by the state police who placed seals on the movable and real estate assets of Domenico Foti, an entrepreneur from Reggio active in the production and trade of industrial packaging sector.

Previously involved in the “Larice 1” investigation, the entrepreneur had been sentenced by the Assize Court of Appeal of Reggio to 4 years and 6 months in prison for mafia association.

For the same crime, in December 2021 he was sentenced to 17 years and 4 months. However, it is a first degree sentence remedied in the “Heliantus” trial for which the appeal is underway.

Asset investigations have shown that the entrepreneur, in a time period between the mid-1980s and December 2021, had accumulated a large amount of capital, disproportionate to his declared income.

For this reason, at the request of the DDA, the Court confiscated an individual company, an industrial building and a plot of land, all located in Reggio Calabria.

The confiscation order also includes two company vehicles and several financial relationships, for a total amount of one million euros.

Finally, against Foti, the judges ordered the prevention measure of special surveillance with the obligation to stay in the municipality of residence for four years.
