11 June 2024 – The management companies of the airports of Alghero and Olbia and the “Sardinia Isola del Romanesque” Foundation have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at promoting the immense historical, cultural and landscape heritage represented by the testimonies of the Romanesque in Sardinia. The objective is to generate shared value to support the territory, through the promotion and valorisation of the Sardinian Romanesque heritage in its value as a cultural and tourist attractor, through training and promotional activities, also for the benefit of tourist flows entering Sardinia.

Antonello FigusPresident of the Foundation “Sardinia Isola del Romanico” declared: The main purpose of the Foundation is to support, enhance and promote the vast historical, cultural and landscape heritage that distinguishes the Romanesque in Sardinia, in collaboration with all stakeholders connected with the development of the territory regional. Hence the collaboration with the management companies of the airports of Alghero and Olbia, which immediately showed great interest, and which will be a harbinger of initiatives aimed at disseminating this historical value for the purposes of the socio-economic development of the territory.

Silvio PippobelloCEO of the Management Companies of the Alghero and Olbia airports, declared: Sardinia is dotted with very valuable examples of Romanesque art and architecture, dating back to the 11th and 13th centuries. We believe that this significant heritage can represent an important tourist attraction, not only for experts in the field but also for all those who may be fascinated by the simplicity and beauty of the numerous churches dating back to that era, scattered throughout the island. . The Memorandum of Understanding aims to create a collaborative relationship that will be able to make Sardinia increasingly known also from this aspect. We plan to carry out numerous activities to disseminate this immense heritage among our passengers.

The Tourism Councilor of the Sardinia Region, Franco Cuccureddu was informed by the signatories of the collaboration relationship and declared: Considering the reality of the Sardinian Romanesque and its diffusion throughout the regional territory, I am convinced that a synergistic action such as that which arises from this agreement will make it possible to strengthen the role of cultural and tourist attraction of the individual territories that host the Romanesque Monuments for the purposes of growth of the tourism sector and related industries.
