The open-air cinema, in summer, always attracts enthusiastic audiences and comments. In Como today, Sunday 9 June, the exhibition begins at Villa del Grumello, while on 11 June the “35 mm under the sky” exhibition starts in the Sant’Abbondio area, also in Como (but if desired, the offer goes up to to the Intelvi Valley). Two enchanting places, not very far from the center of Como, but at the same time not easily reachable on foot by anyone without having to use transport. For example, to come to the specific case, our reader Enrica Vittani is part of this category and also writes to us on behalf of a group of friends aged between 86 and 90, all cinema lovers and who would really like proposals for films under the stars also a little more comfortable than in the historic centre, as has always happened in the past. Below is the letter.

Good morning to all of you,

I just finished reading your article on open-air cinema. But where? At Villa del Grumello. I also write on behalf of over-over friends: from 86 to 90 years old, but not yet stoned. Last year I saw many films in the courtyard of the Garibaldi Museum, now unusable due to urgent work (even if no one seems to be working there) and before that too Martinelli Square.

Years ago, when Dr. Lanfredo Castelletti was director of the Giovio Museum, many films were screened in the Museum Courtyard, now closed awaiting the arrangement of the Little Orfanelle Church where the famous gold coins could be placed. Which, however, is not like rebuilding the Milan Cathedral…

The problem is this: none of us, out of caution, drives a car anymore and we can’t ask friends or grandchildren to always accompany us because we would end up breaking our balls. And so we can’t enjoy open-air cinema.

In short, you will have understood long ago that our Superman doesn’t like culture, he’s into sports… Luckily there are still shows at the Teatro Sociale Arena, but they aren’t films (provided it doesn’t rain).

Enrica Vittani (yes, the very descendant of those who argued with the Rusconis. But now I’m sorry. Owner and handyman of the Colonna Art Gallery, Via Manzoni 12 Como for 21 years).
HI.
