Frost. There are just under two hours left until the counting begins in the city for the local elections. The successor to the outgoing mayor Lucio Greco and the renewal of the city council are decided. In addition to the definitive turnout figure, at 57.05 percent, a slight decrease compared to 2019, the first considerations certainly come from the result of the European elections. At a local level, the grillini of the Cinquestelle Movement sided without ifs or buts with the outgoing city councilor Virginia Farruggia who closed her experience with over 21 thousand votes in the constituency (in the city she surpassed the barrier of 6 thousand votes). A result, at the debut in a competition of this type, which however, given the numbers of the Five Star Movement, should not allow them to succeed. The leader Giuseppe Antoci finished with more than 64 thousand votes, followed by Cinzia Pilo (39,502 preferences) and Patrizio Cinque who exceeded the threshold of 30 thousand votes. Could the result in the city of Farruggia give a boost to Terenziano Di Stefano’s coalition of seven lists, with the Five Star Movement supporting him? The data from the European elections, at a local level, indicate that the three main parties in the progressive area, M5s (with 31.39 percent it is the first party), Pd (9.91 percent) and the left-wing Green Alliance (2.21 percent) percent but above all close to the PeR experience of Miguel Donegani who hosted Leoluca Orlando in the city), bring together 43.51 percent of the votes. Then there is the 3.09 percent for “Freedom” with a strong Deluchian traction (South calls North by Cateno De Luca is in Di Stefano’s coalition) and 0.76 for Action-We are Europeans. A separate case, “United States of Europe” which brings together the Renzians of Italia Viva (in the administrative elections in the moderate-centre-right pact with Grazia Cosentino) but also socialist forces and radicals. In the city they stop at 2.05 percent.
