The Region has decided that i restoration works on the waters of the Savio river they must not be subjected to EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment). The project aims to restore the hydraulic efficiency of the river in the current stretch from Matellica/Cannuzzo in Savio di Ravenna and Cervia. It also provides for the adaptation of the embankments downstream from the towns of Castiglione di Ravenna and Cervia up to the Bottega della Guarniera and Villa Ragazzena localities, on previously expropriated areas. The works are necessary following the flood of May 2023.

The Savio river restoration and safety project

The project provides in detail displacement of the right bankfor a stretch of approximately 1200 meters in the municipality of Cervia downstream from the town of Castiglione di Cervia, with a maximum translation of approximately 10-15 meters outdoorson state land, already expropriated.

Across the river is expected displacement of the left bankfor a stretch of approximately 500 meters in the municipality of Ravenna downstream from the town of Castiglione di Ravenna, with a maximum translation of approximately 20-25 meters always on state land already expropriated, creating the floodplain area.

The main function, according to the report, is to increase the volume of the reservoir and, therefore, reduce flood water levels and facilitate the disposal of flows in transit. According to the Region, “the changes provide for the safety of the waterway with a more precautionary solution than the current one, whose ineffectiveness was demonstrated during the flood of May 2023”.
