Brothers of Italy

Prime Minister Meloni said she was “proud” of the result obtained by her political force, but also expressed satisfaction with the performance of her allies Forza Italia and Lega, whom she thanked: “I am proud of the fact that the majority that governs this nation has succeeded to grow together”. The outcome of the vote strengthens her executive in Europe, in an election that saw the governments of France and Germany emerge weakened from the polls in the face of an advance by the right. And Meloni’s gaze is projected towards the next, imminent international events: “I am proud that this nation is presenting itself at the G7, in Europe, with the strongest government of all. This is something that has not happened in the past, it happens today. It is a satisfaction and also a great responsibility. We must be aware of it.”

For the tenant of Palazzo Chigi, the Europeans are redesigning the Italian political geography, emphasizing the dichotomy between centre-right and centre-left, or rather the comparison between her and the challenger that Meloni herself has ‘chosen’ in this electoral campaign, the secretary of the Democratic Party Elly Schlein: “It seems to me that the Italian system is becoming bipolar again – Meloni further observed – it is good news because in a bipolar system there are distinct and opposing visions of the world that are compared and on which citizens are asked which side stand. Today the citizens told us that they are on our side and we must be able to grasp the meaning of that message”.

Forza Italia

“This result is positive for all the centre-right forces, it strengthens the government”, assured Forza Italia number one, Antonio Tajani, speaking at the Italian national headquarters. “A miracle was achieved, we made the right choices, the right path. I believe that for this the voters rewarded us,” he added.

League

“The government emerges strengthened” from the European elections also for the secretary of the League, deputy prime minister and transport minister Matteo Salvini in via Bellerio, in Milan the day after the vote. “The balance of government does not change – he assured – What I hope will change is European politics. I hope for the centre-right in Europe too. I will be in Brussels for this job and on Wednesday”.

“Vannacci was contested, reviled by half the world and alone he exceeded half a million preferences with a record in the North West and the North East”, he then underlined, adding: “When I nominated him they said that I was an idiot and that the base would have revolted – he added – But this half million votes, which come largely from Lombardy and Veneto, come from the electorate of the League and beyond. I have given him my preference, he has a good vision of the world part close to mine”.

PD

Schlein for his part opened his statement with a thank you to the voters: “A big thank you to all the people who gave us their trust, to those who gave it back, to those who voted for us for the first time.” And he indicated the next objective: the construction of an alternative to the right. So far difficult but which, given the results of these elections, becomes more urgent than ever for the Dem secretary: “We feel even more strongly the responsibility that the voters have given us to build the alternative to this government. The vote of the forces of opposition exceeds that of the majority forces in government. Therefore we will continue to be stubbornly united and from this evening feel an even stronger responsibility to build the alternative”.

M5S

”We take note of this disappointing result, very disappointing, we could certainly have done better”, commented M5S leader Giuseppe Conte to the M5S committee in Campo Marzio, commenting on the result at the European Championships. ”We will carry out an internal reflection to try to delve deeper into the reasons for this result which is not what we expected.” ‘The dialogue with the progressive forces does not depend on an electoral appointment”, ”it will be increasingly intense as we have to take responsibility for an alternative”, he added, underlining: “Overall, the progressive forces have held up well but there is a question about a changing Germany-France political axis. We will seek a difficult balance between progressive and conservative forces of to assert our weight in favor of a progressive Europe”.

United States of Europe – Renzi

“Nothing, it went badly. Unfortunately, the United States of Europe list was left out of the European Parliament for a very short time. I’m very sorry and I would like to embrace the volunteers who dedicated themselves to this idea: you were wonderful. The free nature of your service expands my heart I would like to hug one by one the thousands of people who wrote my name on the ballot: I am truly honored to represent the hope of so many people even if I would have preferred a few more votes on the list”, wrote Matteo Renzi on social media. . “I am grateful to Emma Bonino and to all the political leaders who believed in us. But politics is a great school of life even when you don’t win. And therefore I can’t be sad, dear friends. Because I am very convinced that it was right to do this proposal, at this moment: today’s crazy world needs the United States of Europe and it was nice to affirm the reasons for a dream that goes against the grain. We fought, we expressed ideas in which we believe, we got involved. We didn’t do the quorum, what a shame. But today we will not stop fighting for this idea of Europe, the only one in which Italy can play a leading role. We will find ways to insist on the cultural and values battle for a different Europe”, he assured the leader of Italia viva.

“The absurd breakdown of the Third Pole weighs on the Italian result: we could have had seven reformist European parliamentarians together. And instead there are zero. What madness. But the citizens have chosen and the citizens are always right: I hope the elected officials honor their commitment to Strasbourg giving them the most sincere compliments. We, from the Italian Parliament and from our roles of responsibility, will continue to do our part with the smile of those who know that it is better to risk and lose an election than to get by and lose a challenge. That’s how we are – we men in the arena, Roosevelt would have said – and we will never change, for anything in the world. Long live the United States of Europe! Good night, dear friends”, concluded Renzi.
