It is also in Crotone a case of fraud against an elderly woman occurred local, tricked by two fake policemen arrested shortly after the crime. This was made known by the Carabinieri themselves, who managed to intercept the two young criminals and arrest them before they fled.
The episode took place on the afternoon of last June 7, when the victim received a call from a self-styled soldier, who announced that a colleague was passing by to recover money and jewels in order to avoid the arrest of his daughter, involved in a road accident. A tried-and-tested excuse which however struck a chord with the old woman, who she then has delivered several pieces of jewelry for a value of a few hundred euros.
Fortunately, the victim’s own daughter – including the scam – immediately called 112, thus allowing the timely arrival of a patrol of real Carabinieri on site. Here, near the victim’s home, they found the two criminals still in the car: MS, twenty-seven years old, and PC, nineteen years old, both Neapolitans.
After the ritual formalities, both were arrested and transferred to the city jail. The jewels stolen from the old woman were then returned.
