Forza Italia thrills from 61 to 0, Giorgia is not enough and the Democratic Party smiles

While there are a hundred seats left until the count closes Forza Italia in Sicily returns to breathe the air of 61 to 0. Of course these are no longer constituencies but Sicily colored blue in the pollsters’ maps marks the rediscovered primacy of the Berlusconi supporters on the island.

In fact, Forza Italia’s first place in the European Championships is the most striking result of the Sicilian results. The Azzurri with almost 24% snatch the record from Fratelli d’Italia who stops at around 20%. A result, that of Fi, which had not even been seen since the time when Berlusconi returned to stand as a candidate and which is due to the extraordinary performance by presidential candidate Edy Tamajo which flies beyond 100 thousand personal preferences. But it’s the whole blue list that grinds out preferences with Marco Falcone in second position (91 thousand preferences) followed by Chinnici and Dell’Utri, the candidates who enjoyed the support of Cuffaro’s Mpa and DC respectively, parties which probably did not manage to transfer all the preferences of which they were capable but which demonstrate that he had political flair in aiming for the success of Forza Italia. Forza Italia’s victory blinds President Renato Schifani towards the centre-right majority and within the party where in Rome he will be able to assert the newfound primacy of Fi and Tamajo’s package of preferences.

Around Fratelli d’Italia everything goes as expected. They all wrote Giorgia, and then followed suit Giuseppe Milazzo And Ruggero Razza. However, there is the issue of the disappointment of having lost the primacy in Sicily and the fact that perhaps something at a regional level did not work given that little was managed to do better than the Policies. In the long run, failure to take first place could constitute a problem for Fdi which aspired to be the cornerstone party of the regional centre-right.

In the opposition the Sicilian primacy of the 5 Star Movement is reducedcertainly less than in other parts of Italy but it seems clear that the Grillini have ceded ground to the Democratic Party and the Greens-Left.

Giuseppe Lupo

The Democratic Party in Sicily smiles again as in the whole South, of course perhaps in Sicily he smiles a little less but the 14% achieved is reassuring as are the preferences assured to Elly Schlein and the dem champion Giuseppe Lupo who can compare his personal success to that of his national reference, the President of Emilia Romagna Stefano Bonaccini.

Cateno De Luca is in trouble. Freedom at a national level stops at 1.2, very far from the 4% barrier, but it is a result practically determined by the Sicilian 7% given that throughout Italy the Deluchian list has percentages similar to telephone area codes. It can be sworn that the electoral result will not please the leader of South Call North at all who, in addition to having suffered physically during the electoral campaign, was gripped by the suspicion that some of his people did not do enough or, worse, got caught up in the Dafne Musolino syndrome and would be tempted to abandon the mayor of Taormina.

The League in Sicily is confirmed to be supported by Luca Sammartino. The former vice president of the Region who had to leave his position in the council due to legal troubles campaigned belly-up for the former Melonian Raffaele Stancanelli which collects over 40 thousand preferences and outclasses his fellow list members even General Vannacci himself who however manages to come second and who during the night for a few hours was in the lead in terms of preferences thanks also to Sardinia. Excluding the General, second place goes to the Colonel Mimmo Turano, who achieves a good result and is preparing to be on credit with the party. Disappointment for the outgoing MEP Annalisa Tardino which halves the consensus compared to 2019 (but it was a different era) and stops at 14 thousand, placing it in fourth place.

The Green Left Alliance is close to 5% thanks to the opinion vote attracted by the candidacies of Ilaria Salis and Mimmo Lucano. A decidedly better result than the modest one of the policies and that of Claudio Fava’s list to the regional elections and which does not even benefit from the presence of Leoluca Orlando, decidedly far from past glories and which in Sicily stops at 16 thousand preferences.

And then there is the macronian centrist disaster. The numbers for the United States of Europe and Action are merciless and it is probable that the negative Sicilian performance contributed significantly to the failure to reach 4%. In this context, the lack of personal consensus gathered by Renzi and Calenda in Sicily is also surprising, but also the negative numbers of the former Rector of Palermo and former centre-left candidate for the Presidency of the Region Fabrizio Micari.

The numbers in Sicily show a centre-right firmly in command and an opposition that will have to invent something to be able to compete. Now the internal game within the majority will begin, a game that cannot be taken for granted but which will have to take into account the new centrality of Forza Italia and the strengthening of Schifani.
