The Spanish player Leyre Romero Gormaz triumphed in the thirty-fifth edition of the International Women’s Tennis City of Caserta – Cogepa Trophy, with a prize pool of $60,000.00.

In the final, which lasted two hours and eleven minutes, she defeated the courageous Swiss Jil Teichmann in an intense match that ended with a score of 6-2; 4-6; 6-4.

The enthusiastic audience present applauded and cheered every moment, thus underlining the importance of this final. After the victory, Leyre expressed his enthusiasm for the Caserta tournament, appreciating the hospitality received and already looking towards new goals.

Leyre’s path to victory began with a convincing victory against Russian Ekaterina Maklakova, with a score of 6-1; 6-3, followed by an excellent performance against Nicole Fossa Huergo from Bologna, with a score of 6-2; 6-3.

In the quarterfinals, she defeated the Tuscan Tatiana Pieri after an epic battle with a score of 2-6; 6-4; 7-5. Finally, in the semifinal, she dominated against the Brazilian Laura Pigossi with a clear 6-2; 6-2.

Leyre Romero Gormaz once again demonstrated his talent and determination, bringing home a prestigious victory.

Jil Teichmann’s path to defeat was linear as she eliminated Antonia Aragosa from Caserta 6-2 in the first round; 6-0; then Deborah Church 3-6; 6-4; 6-0; in the quarterfinals the French Armandine Hesse 4-6; 6-2; 6-0.

In the semifinal she overcame the Japanese Sara Saito in three sets 1-6; 7-6; 7-6. The match is one of those that will remain in the memories of the Caserta tennis club, for its duration, three hours and a half, and for its spectacular nature. The opponent Sara Sajto, just seventeen years old, impressed everyone present with her skill.

The final was then followed by the awards ceremony which was attended by the deputy mayor of Caserta Emiliano Casale, with the councilors Gerardina Martino and Enzo Battarra, the president of the Caserta Tennis Club Massimo Rossi with the councilors Rosario Scala, Mario Basile, Aurelio Scotti, Pasquale Corvino, Patrizia Manzella, Guglielmo Masiello, Mario Pavone and Pasquale Pilla, the ITF Supervisor Guido Pezzella, Giuseppe Bonacci of the Coni of Caserta, the Panathlon president Giuliano Petrungaro, the Stars for Sports Merit president Nicola Scaringi, for Cogepa Michele Giaquinto, Pasquale Pilla of SMC, Miriam Fiorino of Lexus Napoli, Marco Grimaldi of Barilla Voiello, Massimo and Michele Alois of Fattorie Alois and Michele Iadicicco of the Sommelier Association of Caserta.

The finalists were awarded the trophy depicting the Vanvitellian palace created by the designer Mario Basile, and all the finalists, both in the singles and doubles, were given wine from Fattorie Alois from particular years.

In his final greeting, president Massimo Rossi thanked all the professionals and in particular the sponsors. “I am very happy with the participation of an increasingly large audience and not only for the happy moment of Italian tennis, but as many players have declared, including the winner, they are happy to return because they feel at home. This is thanks to the organization managed by Gianpaolo Papiro and Marco Matera and that of the media who brought to the attention the news of the tournament and the collaboration of the ITF through the supervisor Guido Pezzella. From the words expressed by the institutions present, there was confirmation that the club will not disappear and will not close even for a day.”

The doubles final on Saturday afternoon was won by the pair made up of the Colombian Yuliana Lizarazo and the Greek Despina Papamichail who they beat in three sets with a score of 4-6; 6-3; 10-3 the British Ali Collins paired with the Colombian Maria Paulina Perez-Garcia.
