With the polling stations closing promptly at 11pm on Sunday 9 June, the counting began immediately, which during the night is also producing the first results in the city of Velletri, which presented itself in the European Elections with two candidates ( Tiziana Pepe for Forza Italia and Giulia Ciafrei for Peace, Earth and Dignity). Despite the driving force of the two candidates, Velletri recorded a turnout of 44.90%, a lower figure than the national and provincial average.

From the parties’ point of view, Brothers of Italy triumphed, as expected, significantly exceeding the national average and breaking through well beyond the 30% share, rising to almost 37%, with enormous growth compared to the 9% obtained in 2019. FdI clearly outdistanced the Democratic partywith an even wider margin than what happened at a national level (37% versus 17% in Velletri).

This result confirms the strong local support for Giorgia Meloni, who managed to consolidate and broaden the electoral base of her party, also thanks to the excellent work in the Region of the councilor Giancarlo Righini and the provincial coordination of the secretary Marco Silvestroni, demonstrating an effective mobilization strategy and solid roots in the territory.

Rooting that also the Leagueconfirms, closing with a percentage well above the provincial and national one, to the satisfaction of Tony Bruognolo and Andrea D’Agapiti, while the 5 Star Movementand fly theGreens and Left Alliance.

First Sections scrutinized

After the counting of the first 9 sections out of 42, well after one in the morning, the situation of the parties is as follows:

  • Brothers of Italy: around 37%
  • Democratic party: around 17%
  • League: above 12%, the third party, clearly distancing the 5 Star Movement and Forza Italia, while the Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra stands out, just behind the blue party.

Preferences: Giorgia Meloni above all

Fratelli d’Italia has seen widespread success in preferences with Giorgia Meloni, followed by Nicola Procaccini (outgoing MEP) and the candidates Squarta and Torselli, with the first preceding the second. In the League, excellent results for Bordoni and Ceccardi, who stand up to the general Vannacci.

In Forza Italia, the local candidate Tiziana Pepe he could finish ahead of Tajani. In the Democratic Party, Schlein and Zingaretti stand out, while in the center-left the Green Alliance and the Left stands out with the former mayor of Rome Ignazio Marino forward to everyone. while he disappoints D’Amato within Action.

As for the other parties, the results were less exciting, with area code percentages, except for the following:

  • United States of Europe and Action: they seem to struggle to exceed the 3% mark, confirming a poor ability to mobilize the electorate in Velletri. Disappointment, if these data were to be confirmed by the definitive ones, especially for the Italia Viva group.
  • Peace, Earth and Dignity: obtains results well above the national average, thanks to the driving effect of the candidacy of the former deputy mayor Giulia Ciafrei, who was able to catalyze broad local support and do even better than Michele Santoro; at the moment the percentage is just under 4%.

The two-day election in Velletri confirms the strong support for the Brothers of Italy, with significant results also for the League, while the Democratic Party maintains a solid but distant position compared to Giorgia Meloni’s party, however, detaching itself from a disappointing 5 Star Movement, which it does worse than the national average. Enormous satisfaction for the Greens and Left Alliance, while Peace, Earth and Dignity also goes well beyond the national figure.
