For years Lapressa.it has offered free and independent information to its readers without any type of public contribution. Private advertising covers part of the costs, but it is not sufficient. For this reason we ask those who read us and follow us every day to give us, if they wish, a contribution based on their possibilities. Even a small support, multiplied by the tens of thousands of people from Modena and Emilia-Romagna who read us every day, is fundamental.

A group of young people, former patients of the Pediatric Oncohematology of the Modena Polyclinic directed by Professor Lorenzo Iughetti, had the opportunity to experience unique emotions in recent days on a sailing boat, accompanied by a professional skipper. The idea of the Sea Therapy project was born from a collaboration with Modena Commerciale Aiutiamoci, chaired by Sheila Chiusolo, as part of the “Il crocodile come fa” project in favor of the Paediatrics of the Polyclinic of Modena, at the behest of the vice president of the Association Triton, Raffaele Grandi, originally from Modena.

Six boys who had recovered from cancer took part together with skipper Raffaele Grandi in the Triton Cup, the first Italian regatta dedicated to the protection of the sea, conservation and marine biodiversity, starting from the Cala de’ Medici tourist port in Castiglioncello (Livorno), at interior of a Sea Therapy project.

The aim is to offer children a psychophysical rehabilitation process, a return to normality, far from fear and the limits imposed by the disease that they have laboriously fought and overcome. It was therefore an initiative in which two themes of great importance, such as the humanisation of care and the protection of the world that each generation receives as a legacy, met in a single project.

«The mission of Triton, an association founded by my family, has always been scientific and social at the same time – explains Raffaele Grandi – it intends to protect the sea and marine species on the one hand, to bring fragile or disabled people closer to the sea as a form of care and rehabilitation. For these reasons I welcomed the invitation of Modena Commerciale Aiutiamoci, agreeing to allow children recovered from oncological pathologies and treated at the Modena Polyclinic to participate in the Triton Cup on 25 and 26 May.

I would like to thank Doctor Monica Cellini who coordinated the children accompanied by their families with Aseop, and Modena Aiutiamoci for its social commitment in favor of public health.”

«We are satisfied to have collaborated on the Sea Therapy project, which sees the involvement of children who have recently overcome a difficult treatment path for an oncological disease – explains Professor Lorenzo Iughetti – we believe that initiatives like this can be of help both to the patients and their families for a full return to ‘normality’. In this experience the six boys were able to get to know the Tuscan Archipelago Park, famous for hosting the so-called “Cetacean Sanctuary” of the Mediterranean, and in particular the protected marine area called Tutela del Tursiops Truncatus, known for hosting protected species such as the bottlenose dolphins from the Delphinidae family and the Caretta caretta turtle, but also birds such as the great and lesser shearwater and the Corsican gull, and aquatic plants such as Poseidonia oceanica. The children and their families, during the days of the Triton Cup, were able to take advantage of the logistical support of Aseop, the Pediatric Hematology Oncology Support Association chaired by Erio Bagni. Present alongside the children were not only the aforementioned Doctor Monica Cellini, a retired doctor who until last year was a point of reference for Pediatric Oncohematology in Modena, but also Doctor Alessia Pancaldi, a doctor at the Modena Polyclinic.
