The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Catania, as part of the investigations against a 25-year-old from Catania, under investigation for the crimes of “family abuse, aggravated personal injury and extortion”, requested and obtained from the investigating judge of the Court of Catania the issuance of a precautionary measure ordering house arrest, carried out by the Carabinieri of the Catania Librino station.
The investigations, coordinated by the pool of qualified magistrates on crimes involving gender violence, at a stage of the proceedings in which the cross-examination with the suspect has not yet taken place, have shed light on the conduct, repeated since 2022 against the mother and his maternal aunt.
The mother, tired of complying with the continuous, pressing and violent requests for money from her son who then used the money to buy the drugs he was using, had decided to report him to the Carabinieri.
In this regard, the victim said that one morning, the suspect would have beaten her and insulted her heavily with the intention of forcing her to give him the money necessary to buy the narcotic and, in the meantime, to convince her, he would also have stolen her mobile phone. In her case he would also have threatened her: “give me the money or I’ll kill you”, and then gave up due to the firm refusal of her mother and also due to the intervention of the Carabinieri alerted by the woman.
The suspect, shortly afterwards, also went to visit his aunt’s house and, after having pulled her several times to obtain the delivery of a sum of money, he failed in his aim only due to the firm resistance offered by the relative.
The 25-year-old’s mother then further told the police, when integrating the complaint, about the occurrence of a further episode. In particular, her young man, after physically attacking her and forcefully pulling her, ordered her to give him some money, and then snatched the purse she was carrying from her.
The 25-year-old’s raids took place, more frequently, against his mother despite the fact that he lived alone, in a house located a few tens of meters from that of the victim.
Lastly, the woman would have been the victim of yet another serious episode at the hands of her son who, after having made a pressing request for money from his mother, had insulted her and once again threatened her with death (“I’ll kill you, you owe me give the money”). During her situation, the suspect attacked her mother physically, so much so that, due to her injuries, she was forced to go to her emergency room where she received medical treatment.
In the meantime, the Carabinieri initiated the “code red” protocol and thus carried out all the necessary investigations and activities.
The immediate investigations, conducted by the soldiers of the Carabinieri, made it possible to outline the investigative framework then reported to this Judicial Authority, allowing the issuance of the precautionary measure in question against the suspect who, subjected to house arrest, thus interrupted the constant mistreatment.
