South calls North, Lombardo asks for information on the possible failure to increase the fares not paid by the construction vehicles of the Giampilieri – Fiumefreddo railway doubling.

The motorway section of the A18 under the responsibility of the Consortium for Sicilian Motorways, which goes from the entrances of Roccalumera and Taormina to Catania, has been affected for months by the transit of construction vehicles coming from the works for the construction of the Giampilieri – Fiumefreddo railway doubling.

“The stretch in question is in fact traveled daily by construction vehicles, which are required, pursuant to the provisions of paragraph 2 of article 34 of Legislative Decree 285/1992, to pay the concessionaire a further sum to integrate the wear and tear compensation equivalent to the motorway tariff applied to the vehicle in normal conditions, increased by 50 percent, and this increase must be paid together with the normal tariff at manually controlled doors”.

This was written by the South Calls North MP Giuseppe Lombardo who asked the regional councilor for Infrastructure and Mobility, the General Director of the Consortium for Sicilian Motorways,

Dr. Calogero Franco Fazio and the members of the Board of Directors of the Consortium for Sicilian Motorways whether it is true that “the construction vehicles useful for carrying out the work on the Giampilieri – Fiumefreddo railway doubling which travel along the A18 motorway do not pay the increase due pursuant to of the aforementioned paragraph 2 of article 34 Legislative Decree 285/1992”.

And he also asks to know “whether if the construction vehicles transiting on the motorway sections under the jurisdiction of the CAS use automatic toll payment systems, therefore not passing through the toll booths with a toll collector present, how these vehicles pay the necessary toll increases provided for in paragraph 2 of article 34 Legislative Decree 285/1992”. If the information in Lombardo’s possession were true, “the Cas would lose tens of thousands of euros – concludes the ScN deputy -. And if the circumstance were ascertained, it is clear that if it lasted for the entire duration of the construction site, the sum that would be lost would amount to hundreds of thousands of euros. Sums that would be used by the CAS for maintenance.”
