Lamezia Terme – A useful initiative to spread the culture of safety, health and prevention, the event organized this morning on Corso Numistrano by First Aid instructors and trainers Maria Cristina Fazio Corsi and Alfredo Latelli, who created a BLSD course ( Basic Life Support & Defibrillation), completely free and open to the public, in the premises made available by the “Il Vecchio Mattatoio” restaurant.
“We chose this central location” explain the organizers, “both to attract the interest and curiosity of citizens, and because we would like it to be the first step to give life to the “Movida and Cardioprotected Shopping” project, aimed at the installation of two new defibrillators between the Corso and Piazza Mercato Nuovo – currently there is only one near the Grandinetti Theater – in order to give extra safety to Lametini and visitors, on the occasion of fairs, processions, but also simple aperitifs and shopping trips in the center , involving the managers of the premises, the shops, and the merchants in the training – the “BirCock” and “Il Vecchio Mattatoio” premises have already joined our initiative. We want to demonstrate the extreme simplicity of using defibrillators, and at the same time their effectiveness, which increases the survival rate in the event of cardiac arrest by 75%”.
The course, which took place in the morning from 8.30am to 1pm, had an initial theoretical part with slide projection, a practical part with tests on dummies, and then a final suitability test with the issuing of related certificates. Sixteen people took part, aged between 18 and 50, but many more citizens were interested in approaching the initiative with curiosity. “We taught the participants to recognize the situations in which to intervene, to make a complete, fast and exhaustive emergency call, and then to practice effective first aid, while waiting for specialized personnel, including of course the use of the defibrillator”, explain Corsi Fazio and Latelli, both national instructors of the Re-Heart training body, already involved in numerous initiatives in the area.
