European elections and 89 mayors: 500 thousand people from Como to vote

Double electoral appointment in the Como area from this afternoon until tomorrow evening. Called to vote will be 511,672 residents in the province of Como (of which 251,601 men and 260,071 women). And 280,184 of these, in addition to choosing their European representatives, will also be able to indicate the mayor and city council of their municipality. In total there are 89 (out of 147) administrations that will need to be renewed and the two largest ones are those of Cantù and Mariano Comense, but there are so many countries waiting to know who will lead them in the next five years.

The polls will be open today from 3pm to 11pm and tomorrow from 7am to 11pm and counting will start immediately after 11pm on Sunday for the European elections, while that for the local elections will begin on Monday afternoon.

The people of Como will elect 20 MEPs out of the 76 total that are up to Italy and who are candidates in the North West constituency, which includes Lombardy, Piedmont, Liguria and Valle d’Aosta. Once you arrive at the polling station you will need to show your identity card and electoral card (it is always better to check first that it is not complete, in this case you must request a new one from your municipality) and you will receive the gray card for the European elections: in addition by ticking the symbol of the chosen party you can (it is not mandatory) also indicate three preferences (provided they are of a different gender when there are at least two). Separate voting is not permitted. In municipalities where the mayor is also chosen, you will receive a second blue ballot. In the capital, 70,554 people from Como will be able to vote (for the European elections only), divided into 74 sections (4 special polling stations at the Valduce and Villa Aprica hospitals, at the Bassone prison and at the Camelie). For the first time, 388 young people who have just turned 18 will vote while 18 students from the city will cast their vote in another Region, a possibility that is being tested for the first time by the Ministry of the Interior in this electoral round .

Anyone who has lost their electoral card or has filled out all the available spaces can request a new one from the Electoral Office of the Municipality of Como, which will follow extraordinary opening hours in order to guarantee the possibility of voting: today from 9am to 11pm and tomorrow from 7am to 11pm (located on the ground floor in the ancient courtyard of Palazzo Cernezzi, entrance from Viale Lecco). An accompaniment and transport service is also provided (today from 3pm to 7pm and tomorrow from 9.30am to 7pm) aimed at disabled people or those with reduced mobility who are unable to reach the polling station independently (requests at number 349. 3358078). If your section is located in a school that is not accessible to those in wheelchairs, you can ask to exercise your right to vote in another section (in addition to the voter card, you must show a medical certification already in your possession or a driving license where the serious motor difficulty is evident) without architectural barriers.
